Patrick Dowd is a 2005 graduate of Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2009 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Business. After graduating from Mizzou, Patrick attended St. Louis University School of Law where he received his law degree in 2012.
As the son, grandson, and nephew of judges, Patrick’s interest in and respect for the law and the legal profession was instilled early in life and his choice of profession is no surprise. His grandfather, Judge Robert G. Dowd Sr., served on every level of the Missouri judiciary including over 20 years on the Missouri Court of Appeals. His father, Judge Robert G. Dowd Jr., has been a judge for over 35 years, the last 20 of which he has served on the Missouri Court of Appeals. Judge David L. Dowd, Patrick’s uncle, has been a judge in the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis since 2000, and Judge James M. Dowd, another uncle and prior employer, was appointed in 2015 to serve on the Missouri Court of Appeals.
Patrick’s legal career began in 2009, working as a summer intern at Dowd & Dowd, P.C. which is run by several other attorney relatives. He then joined Jim Dowd at The James M. Dowd Law Firm, P.C. in 2010 where he worked as a legal intern until he passed the Missouri bar in 2012 and became an Associate.
Patrick has experience working in a wide-variety of practice areas including personal injury, products liability, medical malpractice, toxic tort, mass tort, pharmaceutical litigation, and appellate practice. Though early in his career, Patrick has enjoyed the unique opportunity of participating significantly in several prominent lawsuits, including two major trials: one in 2011 which resulted in a $48,400,000 jury verdict, the largest reported verdict in the history of St. Louis County at the time, and in 2013, a products liability trial involving claims of “popcorn lung” disease from artificial butter flavoring. Most recently, Patrick obtained a $6,800,000 arbitration award for the families of three children who were killed in an automobile accident.
Patrick is currently a member of the Missouri Bar, The Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and The Lawyers Association of St. Louis.
