Baby Formula Lawsuit

There is current litigation against Mead Johnson, the manufacturer of Enfamil, due to the failure to issue specific warnings about the risks of Necrotizing Enterocolitis. Cow’s milk-based formulas from Mead Johnson were fed to preterm infants who subsequently developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a disease that causes inflammation of the intestines that can lead to severe injury or death.

Mead Johnson traces its roots to 1905, when it was founded by Edward Mead Johnson, who was also one of the three brothers who co-founded Johnson & Johnson back in 1886. He later left to build a business of his own, and despite that shared family history, Mead Johnson and Johnson & Johnson are entirely separate companies. The two are not part of the same corporation. What started as a small operation grew into a multinational business serving families and institutions in more than 70 countries. Its formula line Enfamil launched in 1959 and quickly became the company’s flagship product, expanding over the decades into the many Enfamil formulations you’ll find on shelves today. In 2017, Mead Johnson was acquired by Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, the consumer goods company behind household names like Airborne, Lysol, and Mucinex.
