The Essure Permanent Birth Control system is implanted by a doctor inside the fallopian tubes. While the maker, Bayer, claims that the system is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy, unfortunately for many women, it has caused severe side effects, especially for those with an allergy or sensitivity to the heavy metal compound nickel, which is used in the Essure device.
Earlier this year, Bayer announced that it would be withdrawing Essure from the market effective December 31, 2018. This followed a long history of problems with the FDA including an April 9, 2018 order from the FDA to Bayer restricting the sale and distribution of the device. Previously, in September 2017, Bayer discontinued sales of Essure throughout the world, although it opted to continue selling the defective device in the United States until the recent annoucement.
The Holland Law Firm represents thousands of women who have been unnecessarily injured by a device that should never have been brought to the market in the first place. We are very proud of our clients and the many other women who tirelessly and relentlessly advocated for the removal of the device from the market so that no other women would have to suffer like them, and it is our honor to represent them in the continued fight against Bayer.
